Sorry to hear the sad news. My condolences to family and friends. Miss Griggs was a wonderful person. I was one of the lucky ones to have had her as my 6th grade teacher during the 1971/1972 school year in Brielle. Such a wonderful experience for me that I have brought up my experiences in conversation with friends and family many times to this day. She had the knack to make education interesting with memorable events such as spending a week at Mount Misery, Chinese New Year dragon, and when you did a report you dressed the part and cooked in class. She made sure you paid attention to your manners and your posture with the daily “sit up straight” and of course the “dairy Aire in the chair please”. I wish my children could have experienced her touch. I wonder what she did with my many confiscated yo-yo’s and water guns? She was a wonderful person who touched many lives to an extent she may never have known. May all the positive memories of Miss Griggs remain in your hearts and help you though this difficult time. I so fondly remember Miss Griggs as a teacher. I can still see her opening the classroom door at the start of each day, welcoming us each inside. She always treated us like little ladies and gentlemen, and her manners were impeccable, so much so that she inspired the same in each of us. Her walk was like no other, so tall and beautiful and proud, with a slight sashay that made her dress rustle! She was a caring and wonderful mentor to me when I was going through a particularly rough time in my life, and I’ll appreciate her always for that, even though I didn’t realize at the time how important she was. Rest In Peace Miss Griggs, and thank you...

Miss Griggs was one of my all time favorite teachers at Brielle Elementary School. I will always remember her big black glasses, her heartwarming smile, and her regal walk! She was a joy to have as a teacher, and cared about and loved all her students. She will be greatly missed.

Miss Ethyl Mae Griggs was my 6th grade teacher and I have many fond memories of that school year because of her. She was a truly unique and caring, dedicated teacher! Miss Griggs made learning fun and I really enjoyed being in her class... I also remember her reading "A Wrinkle in Time," doing Math drills and small group work, going shopping with her at the Brielle Shop Rite on a committee for purchasing food for a tea party we were having, and I loved her sense of humor. She taught us manners and etiquette in addition to making general learning enjoyable. I can vividly picture her classroom, her big eyeglasses, and stylish haircut. And the way she walked down the hall! In high school I worked in a local ice cream parlor and had the privilege of waiting on Miss Griggs and her mom several times. I ended up graduating from the same college that she attended and becoming an elementary teacher myself. It is because of positive, successful, devoted teachers like Miss Griggs that I wanted to become an educator and work closely with children. Hope all of her former students know how lucky they were to have had her for that year! God bless you, Miss Griggs. You were a truly memorable teacher!

Miss Griggs was my all time favorite teacher by far . She was a gift to all her students who were fortunate to call her MissGriggs ! She was that one special teacher I always remembered and the one who turned me onto reading. “A Wrinke in Time “ came to life as I sat at her feet and listened to her read that magical story page by page . She was a gifted teacher who knew how to make reading and learning come alive ! I can still remember crawling up in a cubicle in our classroom as I read my favorite book of choice . You were the best of the best ! Rest In Peace Miss Griggs !
