Irving A. Malina
January 15, 1926 – August 11, 2019
Irving Malina, 93, of Englishtown, NJ, formerly of NYC, Colonia and West Palm Beach passed away August 11. Born in NYC, January 15, 1926, he grew up in the Bronx. As a child he enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together again to see how they worked. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational HS at the age of 16 1/2 and worked as an apprentice with his father in sheet metal and then found work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard repairing battleships. He joined the Army as soon as he turned 18 to serve his country in WWII and was stationed in France and then Nevada. Upon returning from the war, he met Lily and they married three years later.
They moved to Colonia with their three young daughters and lived there for 22 years. Upon retiring, they moved to Golden Lakes in West Palm Beach, FL where they enjoyed the warm sunshine and new friends. After 30 years, when his eyesight started to fail due to Macular Degeneration, he moved back to NJ to be closer to his daughters. He lived in Brandywine Living at Governors Crossing in Englishtown, NJ for almost 2 years.
He was a maintenance forman for Aristocrat Leather in Newark for 22 years, CEO of Studner-Kavaler in Brooklyn for 6 years and Kayline Processing in Trenton for 4 years prior to retiring.
Irving was active in the Avenel and Colonia synagogues while living in Colonia. He was Condo and Homeowners President in Golden Lakes for several years.
He will be remembered for his happy outlook, good sense of humor, his ability to fix anything and strong commitment to family.
Irving was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Lily Centor Malina and companion, Claire Newman, his parents Philip and Rebecca, sister Marion Yaszay and brother Edward. He is survived by his children, Jo Ann (Harley Hoffman), Karen (Lorin Jaffe), Mona Fiorino, grandchildren Brett (Ally), Shara (Phil), Matthew (Lyndsey), Erica (Rick), Jamie (Steve), Stacy (Chris), great grandchildren Jason, Judah, Gianna, Lily, Skai, Aubrey, Elijah, and Emily.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 16 at 9:30 am at Temple Beth Shalom, 108 County Road 522 Manalapan, NJ. Shiva immediately following at 33 Newport Drive Manalapan, NJ. Visitors are welcome Saturday 2-5 pm and Sunday 12-8 pm.

I had the honor of knowing Mr Irving and caring for him as one of his nurses He was a great man very intelligent Always positive never complaining He would always tell me “ I’ve had a great life I had the best wife and 3 loving daughters I have great memories that I will treasure always” I loved going in while he was watching tv sitting in his recliner and listening to him discuss politics I learned quickly never get into a debate he would always win !! I will miss my dear Irving I will treasure hearing him tell me “ I love you” that was our last conversation I will treasure He was more that a resident he was my family !❤️ May he be at peace
