Joan C. Hall of New Paltz, NY , age 89, previously from Sea Girt, NJ passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY after a short illness. Joan was born on March 18, 1931. Joan graduated from Manasquan High School, Manasquan, NJ in 1948. She attended UNC Chapel Hill where she graduated in 1952 with a degree in Journalism. After marrying and while raising a family, she wrote for the The Leader, a newspaper in Point Pleasant, NJ. She also attended Monmouth College where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She was then hired by the Wall Township Board of Education as a teacher, then administrator. She retired in 1990 after 26 years in the field of education. Joan loved Sea Girt Beach. After retiring, she served as a beach badge checker. She was a member of the Sea Girt Woman’s Club, The Holly Club, the Lighthouse Committee, and an active volunteer in the Sea Girt Library. She also enjoyed playing bridge with a group of friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Gen. Chester A. Charles and Mrs. Marion L. Charles, her husband Harold T. Hall, Jr., her companion Thomas H. Strudwick, and their beloved dog Zachary. She is survived by her daughter Leslie Geil, Mattapoisett, MA, and her partner Carl Lamoureux, her son Harold T. Hall III and his wife Krislee Hall and her grandchildren Colin Geil, Erik Geil, Alexx Hall, and Charlie Hall.. A private graveside service was held. Joan will be missed forever, but she will live in the hearts of all who shared their grief with her family during this difficult time. Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan was in charge of her arrangements.
