Carole Sue Jakubczak
January 22, 1943 – March 2, 2018
Carole’s life could easily be a BIO for many “GI Brats”, as military children are referred to by their civilian counterparts. Born at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Carole began her transient life of travel, diversity and adaptation. As her father moved from one assignment to another during his military career, she had to learn to deal with the constant loss of friends and the apprehension of making new ones at different schools and communities, the toughest situation faced by military children. Of course there was always the excitement and education of seeing new places! Carol attended schools in Iowa, Ohio, Alabama and Virginia before graduating high school in Ankara, Turkey. Shen then attended college in Munich, Germany and at Sam Houston State. Her experiences during these transitions taught her perseverance, tolerance and compassion, molding her into the beautiful person we all loved.
While stationed in Mobile, Alabama as a teenager, she met an Airman with whom she corresponded with for several years before meeting again in Charleston, SC. The inevitable happened and Carole and Jake joined forces in 1962. Fate would not let her escape the military life as she went from military brat to military spouse.
After spending the next twenty two years raising three great children and having eight more moves under her belt, Carole finally laid down the law! Facing yet another relocation, she firmly exclaimed that “twenty three moves in forty one years” was enough. Jake retired from the Air Force and they settled in Austin among family and friends, something that Carole had dearly longed for, a permanent place. Carole then entered into real estate sales at which she excelled for the next twenty odd years. Her honest and caring personality made her many friends over that period, both clients and associates. “Mother Carole” could always be counted on for sage professional and personal advice.
Her mounting health problems prompted a move to the quiet Hill Country of Kingsland, TX in 2007 where she directed the construction of their retirement home. Her health failed greatly over the past several years and she passed as softly as she lived her life – with quiet dignity, great love and compassion for all.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Dale Walther. She is survived by her husband, daughters Susan Evans and Deanna Butler (Michael), son Donald Jakubczak, seven grandchildren, one great grandson, cousins and many dear friends.
A Celebration of her life (no tears, just cheers) per her instructions, will be announced at a later date. Any desired donations may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the animal rescue of choice.
