Donald F. Hulbert III
July 13, 1950 – March 15, 2018
Donald Franklin Hulbert III, 67, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on March 15, 2018 in his apartment in Marblehead. Don was the son of the late Jane Wilson Martin of Marblehead and the late Donald Franklin Hulbert Jr. of Chicago. Don was raised in Barrington Illinois, graduated from Culver Military Academy and the University of Virginia. Don resided in the Marblehead area since the 1980s.
Don was a chef and worked at The Bohemian Club in San Francisco, Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, and at the Corinthian Yacht Club, as well as many local restaurants. Don was also an accomplished artist throughout his life. Anyone who met Don knew he was a gentleman and an intellectual, as he was a voracious reader and a delightful conversationalist.
Don is survived by his sister Mary Redding of Marblehead and brother James Hulbert (Jane) of Hinsdale, Illinois and nieces and nephews, Kate and Jim Redding, and Sarah and Henry Hulbert.
On Sunday April 8, there will a remembrance of Don included in the regular 10:30am service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead where he was a member. A memorial gathering may be scheduled at a later date. Donations may be made to the Marblehead Food Pantry or in keeping with his gentle spirit, consider making a random act of kindness.
