MARBLEHEAD - Helen Ruth Haas of Marblehead and Desert Hot Springs, CA, age 93, passed away in Desert Hot Springs on June 10, 2021 with family by her side. Beloved wife of Leroy J. Sidman with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. She was the last one to pass on of the nine children of the late Frederick W. Haas and Kathryn M. (Fimian) Haas from Revere, MA.
She will be remembered as a devoted mother of Donna French, Gail Visentin with husband, Elijah Fishelson, Helen Debra Valverde, Robin Shanahan and Patrick Shanahan with wife, Dana and as a cherished grandmother of Heather Kritzer, Justin Kritzer, Jordan Valverde with wife, Tanya, Desiree Valverde-Epstein with husband, Freddy, Melissa Visentin, Adam Visentin, Jon Falcucci, Kasey Shanahan and Cody Shanahan. She also had the joy of being the precious great-grandmother of Mia Kritzer, Paris Valverde, Ava Valverde, Gigi Valverde and Rory Valverde.
Helen grew up in Revere and graduated from Revere High School. She earned a BA from Merrimack College in 2006 and a Masters in Theology from Boston College at age 80. She held many different positions in TWA and retired as a Flight Service Manager. After retiring she worked for Father Burns at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Marblehead before moving to California where she was a volunteer chaplain at Eisenhower Medical Center near Palm Springs. Helen loved to travel and upon returning from a trip, cherished time spent with family and friends. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Helen's funeral will begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday, June 17th, from Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead. Burial will follow at Waterside Cemetery, 294 W. Shore Drive, Marblehead.
