Retired Marblehead Firefighter Walter F. Conrad, Sr., age 88, of Marblehead, died on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (Davidson) Conrad.
Born in Marblehead and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Hiram and Leonie (Amirault) Conrad.
A U .S .Navy veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, and was a member of V.F.W. Post 2005, Marblehead.
For 30 years Walter was a firefighter of the Town of Marblehead. During that time, a few times he served as acting Lieutenant.
He also worked as a painter and wall paper hanger.
He loved to sing, travel and build things. He also loved country music and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his pets.
He was the father of Walter F. Conrad, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Marblehead, Paul G. Conrad and his wife Deborah of FL and Marblehead, Elaine Ellers and the late Frank of Lake Worth, FL, and Mark F. Conrad and his wife Elaine of Danvers. He also leaves a sister Margaret McCoy of FL, eleven grandchildren Jason, Paul, Jr., Alyssa, Rachel, Carly, Brett and his wife Kayla, Kristen, Drew, Samantha, Heather and Todd, three great-grandchildren Emma, Bradley and Jacob, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Leo, James, William, Louis, Ernie, Frank, Rose, Muriel and Helen Conrad, Betty Morin, Dora Washburn and Lil Massei.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11 AM in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home 142 Elm Street, Marblehead. Burial in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visiting hours on Wednesday April 30th from 4-7 PM.
