MARENGO – David H. Schmars, 73, of Marengo, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Florence Nursing Home in Marengo. He was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Belvidere, to Nickolas and L. Marie (Allen) Schmars. He served in the Strategic Air Command for the United States Air Force from 1960-64. He loved to go hunting and fishing. He was a genuine and giving man. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth "Gus" (Donna) Schmars; his sister, Susan Maher; his nephew, Nick Schmars; his nieces, Charlanne Easterline and Michelle Clarke; his great-nephews, Cody and Kyle Easterline; and his great-niece, Haley Clarke. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jeff and Bob Schmars. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. The visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St., Marengo. The service will be at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
