On Saturday, July 13, 2019, just one day short of her 87th birthday, Suzanne (Sue) N. Bonstein, was called to her eternal rest. She passed away peacefully at her Marietta, Georgia home after a long illness.
Born July 14, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ to William J. Nolan and Mary G. Nolan, Mrs. Bonstein graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City, NJ, and she attended Seton Hall and Kean Colleges. She was recently predeceased by her loving and devoted husband and companion of 66 years, Robert G. Bonstein, who also hailed from Jersey City. Mrs. Bonstein worked in the travel industry for many years, and she and her late husband traveled extensively for business and pleasure. They and their family also relocated to Stockholm, Sweden for business for nearly two years, during which time they traveled throughout Europe. After returning to the United States, she and her family lived in and around Westfield, NJ, and later in Savannah, Villa Rica and Marietta, Georgia.
Mrs. Bonstein loved life in all its dimensions and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Throughout her life, and until the very end, she made all those she met feel loved and accepted. An exceedingly generous spirit, she also demonstrated humility, grace, forgiveness, gratitude, and amazing fortitude. Mrs. Bonstein’s talents were many: She was a gifted artist and interior designer, a top bowler (regular and Wii, for which her team won an international competition), a golfer for many years, including scoring a coveted hole-in-one. She also loved reading and was highly proficient at word games and puzzles. Mrs. Bonstein also enjoyed music and concerts, and she was an enthusiastic dancer. The couple had four sons, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bonstein was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Marietta, Georgia.
Survivors include her sons Robert G. (Linda) Bonstein, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia and William (Kim) Bonstein of Chester, NJ. Surviving grandchildren include Kristen Bonstein (Ryan Dowd) of Dedham, Massachusetts; Laine Bonstein (Alex Papadopoulos) of Missoula, MT; Robert Bonstein, III (Mollie Chen) of Brooklyn, New York; Megan Christ (Elliott) of Brooklyn, New York; and Devon Bonstein of Chicago, IL. In addition, she is survived by four great-grandchildren, Wayne and Moira Dowd of Dedham, Massachusetts, Lydia Christ of Brooklyn, NY and Lilly C. Bonstein, also of Brooklyn.
Preceding Mrs. Bonstein in death besides her husband Bob and her parents are sons Wayne and Craig Bonstein.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H. M. Patterson & Son, Canton Hill. A funeral mass and memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3401 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068, on Monday, July 22nd beginning at 11 AM. A second memorial gathering and joint interment service for both Mr. and Mrs. Bonstein will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ on August 9 beginning at 11 AM.
