Mrs. Audrey McNeil Samuels was born on October 26, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to James Golar McNeil. and Emma Lucille McCullough.

She was their only daughter and the older of two children. Her brother, James Jr., preceded Audrey in death.

Her early education was received at The Girls’ High School, Brooklyn, N.Y. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mercy College.

She married Irving Wellington Samuels in September 1950. Four children were born to this union, Ronald F. Samuels, Richard L. Samuels, Robert M. Samuels and Lynne D. (Samuels) Ruff.

She was a dedicated mother, lover of travel, bridge and the arts. She retired from The Bank of New York in April 1989. From that time, her focus turned to bridge and travel. She prided herself by being able to attend most of the major events in her children and grandchildren’s lives. Her travels took her to every major continent in the world. Her final trip was a Caribbean cruise in 2014. Words from Audrey’s high school yearbook captured her well: “To know her well is worth your while.” She was a wise woman with a unique perspective on life and a particular sense of humor.

She is survived by four children, their spouses and five grandchildren: Cody, Aaron, Emma, Devin and Alexis. Audrey will be missed by children, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday April 24 at 11 AM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 10 until 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Those who desire, in lieu of flowers, may make contribution to the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.

“No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.”

Audrey nurtured and cared for "her family" - they came first. She was quick to make friends and you knew right away if she liked you or wanted nothing to do with you. She had a subtle sense of humor and wit that was distinctly "Audrey." She will be greatly missed by those who loved her. She is safe within the warm embrace of our Lord. Here's to Kitten and Flip.

Aunt Audrey

You were always my biggest fan
Followed my career across the land
Supported me always with loving care
I could always count on you to be there

I will remember you fondly - your humor, your wit
No one could match you - not one bit
The laughter you gave and shared with us all
Every Thanksgiving he had a ball!

Thoughts of you bring a smile to my face
Your lessons of love, your kindness and grace
You were a pillar of strength and a beacon of light
I close my eyes and hold you tight

Mother, aunt, sister, friend
Kind and loving to the end
You have joined the angels - take wings and fly
Watch over us all from the heavenly sky

In loving memory

I've known Mrs.Samuels for a short while, but her sweet personality, sense of humor and bright smile brought lots of sunshine. She was surrounded by so much love. I am blessed to have been able to be apart of her care, not knowing that it would be my farewell visit, saying "good night and sleep well". Our Angel will be missed dearly, but we know she's resting peacefully in a heavenly place. Praying for the family and love ones comfort and strength during this difficult season.
