Visitation will be held Friday, January 3 from 6pm to 8pm at Adams Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday, January 4 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lott, Texas. Father John Kelley will officiate at all services.
Anton was born May 9, 1925 in Lott, Texas to parents John and Annie Niekamp. He attended Marlin High School and was drafted out of the 11th grade to serve in the United States Army during World War II. In his service to his country, he earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1946. After serving in the military he worked at Falstaff Brewery and then at Hammond Machinery for 35 years. Anton enjoyed farming and that is what he pursued later in life. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for over 75 years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Anton was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Annie Matilda Rentz Niekamp; brothers, Robert Niekamp, Andrew Niekamp and Raymond Niekamp and sisters, Ida Niekamp and Mary Lynton.
Anton is survived by his brother, Alvin Niekamp and wife Ella Mae; his sisters, Dorothy Descoteaux and Irene Scroggins and husband James; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends and neighbors that cared deeply for him.
Pallbearers will be Anton’s nephews.
