Dwight Clifford Neal was born to Yvonne Thornton Neal and Robert Clifton Neal Jr. on February 23, 1956, in Washington, DC. Dwight received his primary education in Fairfax and Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia. He graduated from Broad Run High School, Ashburn, Virginia in 1974. Throughout high school, Dwight was an active football and basketball player.
At an early age, Dwight was baptized by the late Rev. John W. Thornton and became a member of First Baptist Church, Sterling, VA. Upon moving to West Virginia, he rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of Community Baptist Church in Kearneysville, West Virginia. During his time at Community Baptist, he was an intricate part of the church’s annual family and friends’ day and always available to lend a helping hand.
In 1976, Dwight enlisted in the United States Navy, where his focus was dentistry. His duty stations included California, Hawaii, and Maryland. He received numerous decorations throughout his military career and after ten years of distinguished service, he was honorably discharged. Utilizing his military training, Dwight became employed as a Clinical Dental Technician under Dr. Sheldon Contract, DDS in Washington, DC; where he worked for over twenty-three years until he retired in 2019.
On September 4, 1976, Dwight married his soulmate, Thelma Regina Ferguson, who he loved and cherished. With this union he opened his heart and welcomed four children.
Dwight had a passion for photography, offering video and photoshoot services to many people throughout the years. He was an avid Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan always ready to provide stats on the various players. On many occasions you could find Dwight fishing with family and friends, which he truly enjoyed.
Dwight loved his family and would give the best hugs. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, a cherished brother, respected uncle, and a great friend. He was always ready to offer advice on various subjects and situations and often reminded his seven sisters and one brother who their BIG brother was!
Early, Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024, Dwight quietly transitioned to eternal life in Boonsboro, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Yvonne Neal, his mother and father-in-law Thelma and Samuel Ferguson, bonus mother and father-in-law George and Annabelle Ferguson and granddaughter Naysa Green.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Thelma Regina Neal, loving children, William Twyman (My), Renee Green (Corey), Curtis Twyman (Melissa) and Paul Twyman (Tammie), 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Dwight’s memory will live on with his sisters, Shirley Harper, Rachel Muhammad, Rene Davis, Sharon Wilkins, Frances Lucas (Frank), Roberta Smith, Dannette Greene (John) and brother, Robert Neal III. Sisters-in-law; Claudette Ferguson, Deborah Bowie, Vanessa Stoner, Hattie Kay Wise, Evelyn Hough, Brothers-in-law; Samuel, Leroy, John (Vicky), Jerry and George Ferguson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Rosedale Funeral Home from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
