Madalyne Blackburn Langdon, 96, of Martinsburg, departed this world Saturday, January 12. A proud coal miner’s daughter, she was born on July 28, 1922, in Stone, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late William Harvey Harrell and Hattie Bennett Harrell. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy, and two brothers James and Bill Harrell. She is survived by her children John Blackburn of Kennewick, Washington; Bill Blackburn and wife Elizabeth of Martinsburg; and Daughter Jane Couser and husband Eric of Gerrardstown. She has four grandchildren: Chad Blackburn, Beth Beals, Heather Blackburn, and Ryan Couser, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She has four surviving siblings, sisters Connie Bazzilla, Sue Pyles, and Mary Given and brother John Harrell.
Madalyne was previously active in the Martinsburg Lioness Club, Martinsburg Women’s Club and the Red Hats. She was an animal lover, enjoyed traveling on senior bus trips, and especially enjoyed her time at the beach.
Viewing will be at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg on Thursday, January 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services will be Friday, January 18, at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to the Berkeley County Humane Society.
