Anita Kay Hallock, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2020 in Holt, Michigan. She was born in Mason on October 3, 1936 to Harry and Melba (Grinnell) Smiley. As she and her husband, Richard Hallock, raised their family in the Mason area, Anita was known as the “Avon Lady” to many. It was her cooking and baking talents, though, that made a lasting impression. The scent of her pies and homemade bread could be smelled for blocks, and when she was 18, she was crowned the Ingham County Pie Baking Queen. Anita also loved fishing, camping, and crafting with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hallock; her daughter, Stacey Madden; her parents; and her brother, Richard Smiley.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Steven Parker, Lorena Griffin, and Lana Burleson; her grandchildren, Zac, Dallas, and Shantelle Griffin, Dylan Wright, Kaylee Connor, Conan Denovich, Shyanne Six, and Morgan and Ross Madden; her great-grandchildren, Ace, Sydney, and Auzzi Griffin, Remington Connor, and Oli and Eli Denovich; and her sisters, Beverly Long and Janet Smiley.
A Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
In honor of Anita, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
