I am just so heartbroken to hear of Matt’s passing. We went to high school together and quite often bantered about sports. He was passionate and had no qualms about sharing when a team disappointed him and even more so the brevity of when our horrible teams did something worth celebrating.

What stands out to me most was how huge his heart was and how much he loved - everything and everyone. When sending him well wishes, be it birthday wishes or prayers during his battle, the very first thing he would do after thanking me (because he was sincerely gracious and appreciative) was ask how my daughter was and tell me he didn’t know how we did it. Every. Single. Time. He downplayed his own struggles and worried about others. He was determined to fight like hell and he did. He wasn’t just strong, he was #MattStrong. You will be sorely missed by so many. I’m so glad I was able to see you last summer at our reunion. You can bet if the Jets ever win anything (any game at this point) I will be smiling and cheering them on with you in mind. Rest easy my friend!

It is with much sadness and remorse that I learned of Matthew’s Illness. Although we personally did not see Matthew often, on the rare occasions when we did I enjoyed very much talking sports with him. We shared an intense interest in all things sports. I will never forget on two special occasions
that he arranged “MET” Box seats for his parents, my brother Ralph and myself. Please know that
Matthew occupies a special place in my heart as I am sure that he does with you and so many others.

This photo was from one of the last events I attended with Matt and our Rutgers IT crew. Matt was truly a special guy. We clicked from the first day we met and remained friends after he departed Rutgers. I’m so grateful that I was able to see him in early February and have dinner with him one last time. He was truly a unique guy with an amazing personality who would do anything for anyone. I’m really going to miss him but I will never forget the memories we had!
