Boston Blaine England, 89, departed this life on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the McGuire Veterans Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Philippa. He leaves behind to preserve his memory his children, Jonathan England and wife Charlene, Pamela England and partner Wade, Charlotte Jones and husband Donald; and three cherished grandchildren, Emory, Samuel and Tiffany.
Boston was born July 26, 1924 in Welch, W.Va. At age 17 he joined the US Navy serving aboard an LST in which he participated in the Allied landing at Normandy. He also participated in the Pacific, the Philippines and Borneo. He was medically discharged in 1946 at McGuire Veterans Hospital where he met his wife Philippa. They were married in the McGuire Chapel in 1957.
He spent 25 years serving as a Juvenile Probation Officer for the Hanover County Dept. of Public Welfare and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville where he taught Sunday school for many years. He loved playing his guitar, collecting old cars and stamps, and giving his dog, Jessy, pats on the head. He will be deeply missed not only by his family but by his many good friends at The Towers Assisted Living Community, where he lived happily for the last five years.
The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24th, at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd. in Mechanicsville, where a memorial will be conducted at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond, Inc., 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
