Earl Thomas Hopkins, 80, passed away Saturday, June 8th at the Baptist Hospital in Southaven, MS.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Faye (Savage) Hopkins; his daughter, Michelle Jaquess and his sons Steven (Lisa) Hopkins, John (Charlotte) Tyler, Jimmy Tyler, Philip (Michelle) Tyler, Rickey (Donna) Anthony, Jerry "Bubba" Anthony and James (Mary) Anthony. He is survived by his brother Joseph Hopkins and sister Irma Carmichael. He was a grandfather to five grandsons, three granddaughters, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Tommy also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Cox Hopkins and Earl Hopkins. His sisters Anita Holden and Melba Adams are also deceased.

Tommy was born in Memphis, TN and was currently residing in Tunica, MS. He retired from IC / CN Railroad after 42 years of dedicated service. Prior to that, he served in the Navy. Without a doubt, he would have been on the straight path to leadership, however, he was diagnosed with asthma after just 29 days of service. He was an amazing bowler, pool shark, cross word solver, and he loved the slot machines and playing Keno. Anyone close to Tommy knew to pay him a visit or a phone call if they were up for a debate on current events, historical facts or needed to solve a math equation. Tommy was a gracious host to many gatherings throughout the years, always keeping in mind everyone's favorite beverage or snack.

E.T. will go down in history as an all-around family man and great friend to all. He will be greatly missed.

Not many things are as difficult as putting my feelings for the best father in-law ever in words. Tommy, I loved you, I still love you. Things will never be the same without you at our family events. You made everyone feel welcomed, special and loved. I don’t know that any of us will ever eat banana pudding again because someone other than you will have to take the first serving.

You and Faye have modeled marriage goals for so many. James and I have often left a family function laughing about the banter between you two. You both brought out the very best in each other and demonstrated how a marriage should be. Neither of you made it a 50/50 split, but both gave 100%, and showed the world how it should be. Your commitment to one another was undeniable.

Faye, I am here for you, and I love you so much.
