Lorraine received her Master of Science in nursing from the University of Indiana in 1979. She made a career in the US Army, obtaining the rank of Lt. Col. She served in the United States and Germany and in 1980 received the US Commendation Medal during the Mariel boatlift, which brought thousands of Cubans to the states. When Lori lived in Oregon, she worked for a non-profit organization which focused on the well-being of young children.
For years after her Army career, Lori was a community advocate for the less fortunate, volunteering for AZCEND Food Bank. She was also an active member of Chandler Presbyterian Church (CPC), where she was ordained as both a deacon and an elder. At CPC, she collected food and coordinated the congregation to provide an annual Thanksgiving dinner for those in need. She also led a yearly fundraising sale and in everything she did, she’s remembered for her loyalty and strong resolve to make sure important jobs got done well.
One leader at CPC remarked that when Lori said she would do something, you could be confident it would get done and added that Lori was an unusually memorable person. Family and friends consider her an exceptionally kind and generous person who made the community a better place to live.
She is survived by brother Bruce and Sister-in-Law Norma and her cousins Corinne Vitale, Lisa, Jeff, Shane and Bryce Wolfe. She was predeceased by her parents Matilda Ambrozy and LeRoy Dayton.
A memorial service will take place on July 14th, 2021 at 7:00 pm at Chandler Presbyterian Church, which is located at 1900 S. Arrowhead Dr., Chandler, AZ 85286.
