Twyla J. Shedden
April 4, 1926 – March 29, 2021
Twyla Jeanette Blanchette Shedden Twyla Shedden passed away on March 29, 2021 in her home in Mesa, AZ. Twyla was the daughter of Leroy and Elvera (Nystorm) Blanchette. She was born April 4, 1926 in Beattie, Kansas. She spent her childhood in Beattie, KS at the family farm with her parents and siblings. She went to a rural school where she got to ride her horse to and from home. There were about 26 students in her high school graduating class. In 1947 she met her late husband Don. They met at the Beattie roller rink. They were married February 5 1948. They were married for 41 years until Don’s death in September 1989. In 1951 she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. When she retired she was a line assignment operator. She was a 32 year employee when she retired. On February 4, 1951 Twyla and Don welcomed son Mike. In 1959 Twyla, Don & Mike moved to the Kansas City, MO area. In mid to late 1960’s Twyla boated with family and friends at Lake of the Ozarks. When she was 52 she decided she wanted to learn how to ride her own motorcycle. Before she learned how to ride on her own motorcycle she was a long time passenger on her husband’s motorcycle. In the 1970’s and 1980’s she was on a bowling league in Kansas City. She loved going and playing BINGO in KC, Mesa or wherever she happened to be. She was a lifelong member of Eastern Star. A life member of the VFW Auxiliary, was a member of the 2 Wheelers motorcycle club. In the early 1970’s Twyla and Don did some RVing. After her husband died Twyla did some traveling. She was a “Snow bird” in Mesa, AZ for many years. She became a permanent resident of Mesa, AZ. Twyla was breast cancer survivor. Twyla is preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Leroy and Elvera Blanchette, by all of her siblings. She is survived by her son Mike, granddaughters Sheila, Suzanne and Stacey (Brenden). Great grand children Ryan, Aubrey and Holly and lots of niece and nephews. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Twyla’s honor to the Susan G Colman cancer society or American Cancer society. Funeral will be in Frankfort, KS at a time to be determined.
