Dallas, Texas -- Stella Maurine Pounds Selman, 91, passed peacefully in her sleep early on 31 May 2017 at Seasons Hospice, Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas. She was a native of Wheeler, Texas, and a graduate of Wheeler High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Technological College and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a strong believer in hands-on community involvement throughout her life as evidenced by twenty years of voluntary service to Meals on Wheels and active participation and leadership roles in the Ladies Golf Association, Texas Tech Alumni Association, and Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a dedicated member of First Methodist Church, Lubbock, where she taught the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years and shared an unwaveringly strong faith. Family business interests included the Phillips 66 Distributorship in Slaton, TX, and farming. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Nathan Hunt and Mrs. Artie Lee Hunt, her husband, E.C. Pounds (d. 1966), her son, Carl Pounds (d. 1966), and her second husband, Emery Selman (d. 1993). Survivors include daughter Diane Pounds Gossett and son-in-law, Robert Gossett, both of Dallas; grandsons Jared Gossett of Austin and Jeffrey Gossett of Dallas; and great-granddaughter McKinley Gossett of Austin. Survivors also include stepdaughter Sue Selman Paul of Austin and stepson Paul Selman of Wichita, Kansas. Family was of vital importance to Maurine throughout her life and she took special pride in exceptionally strong relationships with her grandsons, mentoring them in the Christian faith and being supportive and encouraging during their college years. Jared Gossett in fact lived with her during his time at Texas Tech. Memorial services and internment will be held at 2PM in the Resthaven Mausoleum at Lubbock. The family requests voluntary contributions to First Methodist Church, Lubbock, and/or Meals on Wheels in lieu of flowers as expressions of sympathy.
