
Caroline McNeal Lavender, age 81, died in New Orleans at Lambeth House on Sunday, December 15, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Sydney Leach Lavender. She is the mother of Caroline Lavender Nead (Arthur W.) and grandmother of Caroline Somerville Nead. Mrs. Lavender was born on February 27, 1932 in College Station, Texas, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas McNeal. She was a resident of Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Lavender graduated from the University of Alabama and received a Master of Fine Arts degree, specializing in fashion illustration, from Parsons School of Design, New York. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s on the Highland Episcopal Church in Birmingham. She was an accomplished artist and avid gardener. Mrs. Lavender will be buried in the Lavender family plot in Newbern, Alabama, with a graveside service to be held at 1 p.m., January 11. Box 399, Greensboro, AL 36744, or to the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, Department of Theater and Dance, 215 McWilliams Hall, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA 70118.
