There is another Irish Channel Angel watching over us. Mary Alice Barrett Bode joined her heavenly family on April 23, 2018 at the young age of 74. Survivors include her daughters Carla Smith and Shannen Hosch, her son-in-law Carl Hosch, her brother John Barrett and her sister in law Danell Barrett, her granddaughters Nikole Hosch (Skylar Wolfe), Bailey Hosch (Jb Bonura) and Hannah Smith and her great grandson Ace Bonura, her nephews J.R. Barrett, Kenny Lynn (Tara) and her niece and Godchild, Megan Barrett. She was also survived by her great niece Cameron Barrett and her great nephews Landen Frey and Jaxon Barrett. She was preceded in death by her “good man” Maurice “Cheyenne” Bode, her mother Alice Barrett, her father Julian “Bernie” Barrett, her brother Edwin Barrett, her sister Patricia Barrett and her son-in-law Clifford Smith. Mary was born on June 18, 1943 in New Orleans and enjoyed her life, as we all heard in the stories she told us repeatedly. She loved that she was from the Irish Channel and told every “new friend” she met about her life in the Channel. In the last few months there were many special people who entered Mary’s life and by extension became a part of our family. We would like to thank the entire staff at Hearts of Hospice, especially Linda, Tasha and Emma. A huge thank you and love to Jada Dumas who did a wonderful job taking care of mom during the day. Thank you to Mr. Dwight and Ms. Leslie and the entire staff at Slidell Adult Day Health Care. These people provided amazing care for Mary in the last few weeks and months of her life and she kept them entertained with her stories. A Visitation will be held with the family at a Memorial Service to celebrate her life from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm on Friday May 4, 2018 at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana 70006.
