Sarajane “Sunny” Lebowitz

Sarajane “Sunny” Lebowitz was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 22, 1936 to Jack and Winifred Lebowitz. She joined her sister Marcia in a row house on Fairview Avenue where she spent the next 18 years. Sunny attended Forest Park High School graduating early at the age of 16 and then went on to complete her bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland. Her first job was with Hutzlers Department Store in the Executive Training Program working in the advertising department.

Sunny honed her wordsmith skills as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, and her promotional skills handling all publicity for Mademoiselle Magazine. She joined her parents and sister in Miami in 1965 and worked her way up in advertising and sales promotion at Jordan Marsh, Gimbels, and finally as Vice President of Sales Promotion at May Department stores in Denver. She was a go-getter advertising executive woman in the world of “Mad Men” from the 1960s onward, setting an example for her peers and family.

When she made her move to New York City in 1983, she finally found home. There she worked as Public Relations Chief for Lord and Taylor, while savoring life in the big city attending concerts, Broadway shows, and enjoying evenings out with friends. It was there that she remained happy and independent for the rest of her life.

She will be well remembered by her sister Marcia Lebowitz Silver (Bill) and her three nephews Jeffrey Silver (Lienna), Scott Silver (Yvonne), Michael Silver and also Susan Silver and Tali Silver.

Sunny was beloved by grandnieces Sasha (Charlie), Jillian (Alex) and Maya and grandnephews Max, Jeremy and Matan.

The memory of this strong, independent woman will be carried on by her great grandnieces Violet, Brielle and Phoebe and her great grandnephews Jackson and Caleb. They will all hear the stories of her long and colorful life!

A graveside service for Sarajane will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
