Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Herb was born in Colorado City, Texas, on November 24, 1928. He graduated from Westbrook High School, and then joined the United States Air Force where he served in Guam toward the end of World War II. When he returned back to the States, he continued on to Texas Tech University for two years through the ROTC program. Soon after that he went to work for what was then Humble Oil Company, now ExxonMobile, in Midland, Texas, where he lived for 50 years. He began as a roughneck, worked his way up to draftsman, and then later received a degree in electronic engineering, making the Dean’s list, and was a pioneer in working with mainframe computers.
He retired after 34 years of dedicated service from Exxon in 1986 at age 58, which gave him the opportunity to enjoy his hobbies as an avid reader and golfer, traveling to various golf courses around the country with his current wife, Billie Harshaw Langley, to whom he was married for 28 years. He left Midland and permanently moved to Longview in 2003.
Herb Langley was a devoted husband, an incredible father, and a man of faith and truth. He was deeply loved by his family, and is survived by his wife, Billie Langley; two children from a previous marriage, Sonja J. Langley, and Rodney G. Langley and his wife Gayle; by his three grandchildren, Tiffani Bohannon and her husband Eric; Shannon Langley and Dustin Langley; by his three great-grandchildren, Nick Palacio, Noah Palacio, and Peyton Langley; his sister, Sondra Goldbeck and husband Carl; his brother, Doug Langley and wife Barbara; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd A. Langley and Willie Frances Langley; his older brothers, Floyd A. Langley, Jr., and W. James Langley, MD., as well as his youngest son, Robert C. Langley.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The family of Herb Langley wishes to thank all his care givers who treated him with respect and kindness, and all those who have shared their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
