Carol Ann Matthews
August 20, 1960 – December 23, 2020
Carol A. Matthews of Shaler transitioned to her eternal spiritual life on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Carol was a caregiver to all, a homemaker including a housekeeper for many years. She fought a long battle of Myasthenia Gravis for over twenty years. She was a warrior, a fighter, and some would even say the strongest person they knew; in spite of all her adversities she continued to smile and bring joy to those around her. Over the course of her sixty years she touched many lives by being who she was. She is the beloved mother of Brian (Monica) and Jennifer Matthews. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband Roy, for 37 years, who stood by her side. Her pride and joy in her life included her children, who are forever grateful for all the love and support they received from her and all that she helped them achieve in life. Her love is unconditional and everlasting. She is preceded in death by her mother Mercedes Long and Mother in law Dorothy Matthews. She had loving and lasting relationships with her sisters Joanne, Pam (Kenneth), brother Albert (Marie), nephews, David Bahle, and Josiah Long; nieces, Robin, Nicole and Becky. Brother-in-law, Kenneth Matthews, and Dennis Matthews (Jean). She was a lifelong friend and sister to Kathy McKruit (Carl) and that friendship spread to their children Joshua (Crystal), Matthew (Leanne), Brandon (Libby), and Christopher. In all the hardships Carol faced she continued to be a social person, listening to everyone's stories and always asking about others. She would not hesitate to give a compliment to brighten someone's day. She was a friend to many. Much appreciation to the Apheresis team at UPMC Mercy Hospital, her primary team including Dr. Carrington,The Palliative Team at UPMC Mercy, the many staff at LFHC, and to all those that have impacted her quality of life over the years. Memorial Service to be at a later date. Family requests that the one thing you can do to honor Carol is to show compassion towards others.

I am a co- worker of Jennifer, Carol's loving daughter. She exemplifies kindness, sincere caring & compassion for others. As I have read about Carol, I can definitely say Jennifer is truly a beautiful reflection of her mother.
My sincere sympathy and prayers to all of the Matthews family.
