Gary W. Farrell departed this life on Saturday March 24th, 2018 and was born July 18th, 1945 in Houston, Texas. Gary settled into a Navy life that took him throughout the world. After retirement, he settled in Pace, Florida and raised an extended family that included not only his children, but step children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A veteran of Vietnam, Gary served numerous tours of duty in country as a helicopter door gunner. After his service in Vietnam, he returned to the states and continued his career, ultimately retiring in 1984. Even after his retirement, Gary was an avid proponent for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a life member of VFW Post 4833. An unapologetic patriot, Gary ensured those he raised respected not only their country but also the heroes who served in the Armed Forces.
After settling into life in Pace, FL, Gary led a simple life as a hardworking man who dedicated his time to the raising of his extended family. He was an avid outdoorsman, relishing the time he spent on the water and in the woods with his family. Teaching his children and extended family to fish, hunt and camp, they will always cherish those memories of the time they spent with him.
Gary Farrell was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Farrell and mother, Kathleen Farrell and wife of 39 years, Judith Voelkel Farrell. He is survived by sisters; Patricia Spadachene, Linda Farrell Denson, Karen Farrell Jumper, brothers; Lynn Farrell and Bobby Farrell; his daughters Mellissa Davis and Karey Beck, step-daughters; Jessica Valdes and Jacqueline Valdes; his grandchildren; Matthew Roe-Farrell, Tavarius Farrell, Jasmine Farrell, Jake Zuniga, Bianca Zuniga and Maci Sprague; nephew Jon W. Voelkel and niece Cassandra Wise.
A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate the life of Gary will be held Saturday, March 31st from 1pm to 3pm with a service following at 3pm at National Cremation & Burial Society located at 5641 Hwy 90 West, Milton, FL, 32583. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to your favorite veterans organization.
