

Patricia Rairdon Curphey, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Somerby assisted living in Santa Rosa Beach, FL where she lived with her adored husband of 67 years, John M. Curphey. The daughter of Mary Elizabeth Myers and Smith L. Rairdon, Pat was born on June 10, 1927 in Passaic, New Jersey and lived in Toledo, Ohio most of her life. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1945. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from the Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a devoted mother of five children, William (deceased) John (Barbara), Jane (Bob), Jim (Gini) and Susan; seven grandchildren, Ruth Curphey Anderson (Adam), Addie Curphey Zwier (Michael), Mary Curphey Mills (Andy), Doug Curphey, Will Vogelgesang, John Vogelgesang, and Gena Johnson; and four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Ella, Maggie, and Clair Patricia. Pat is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Wilce of Claremont, CA and Sue Allen of Austin, TX, and extended family and loved ones. Pat and John raised their children in Toledo and lived there until John’s retirement in 1999 when they relocated to the Florida Panhandle. In Toledo, Pat was an active, lifelong volunteer serving a number of organizations including, the Toledo Day Nursery and Sunset House. She was a member of the Junior League. Known for her welcoming smile, kindness, generous and warm spirit, Pat loved people. Because of her extraordinary concern for others, she was a dear and loyal friend to many. She enjoyed golf and water aerobics with her friends and neighbors. Quick-witted, Pat loved to laugh and spend as much time as possible with her children and grandchildren. Nick-named “the prayer warrior”, she demonstrated her love of God in many ways. She served as a Sunday school teacher and elder at Collingwood Presbyterian Church in Toledo and co-led a women’s Bible study for more than 20 years. There will be a memorial service held at 1:30 on Tuesday, February 21 and a luncheon at noon for all attending at Point Washington United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa Beach on County HWY 395.
