OBITUARY

James "Jim" Emmett Stewart Jr.

March 27, 1972December 9, 2019

Jim Stewart (James Emmett Stewart Jr.), 47, entered the hospital on November 20th, 2019. He spent 19 days under the great care of the WakeMed Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit team and super doctor and brother-in-law Bobby Levy giving time for new friendships and deeper bonds to build among his most cherished humans. He passed away surrounded by loving family, comforting touch, and loving words on the morning of December 9th, 2019.

In honor of Jim’s lighthearted personality and keen sense of humor we are writing this obituary, some might say inadequately, mirroring his unique style.

Jim was born and immediately dubbed "the favorite first son” to Kathy and James Stewart in March of 1972. They provided constant love, support, caring, and adventure.

He is survived by his wife Emily, whom he crushed on for 24 years before he finally made his move, and his brilliant and proudest accomplishments/sons Trey, Greyson, and Braeden.

Additionally, he is survived by his mother Kathy Setaro, stepfather Ed Setaro, his much older sister Stephanie, nephews Joseph, Joshua, and Noah with smart as a whip personalities and sarcasm after his own heart, and a variety of cousins with mountain roots to complete the list of those who are left to embellish his memory.

Jim’s employment history was standard: Angus Barn Walking-Library and Banquet Extraordinaire, Oyster-Shucker, Nortel Know-it-All, and for the past 16 years International Classified Highly Technical Resolution Architect (a.k.a. Tilt-A-Whirl operator). He was also a skilled telescope builder, Macgyver of all things, friend to honey bees, and expert wood whittler.

His 30 plus years as a Scout - from Boy Scout to Cub Scout pack leader afforded hundreds of children and parents exposure to Jim’s unique personality, pinewood derby engineering genius, and range skills. 100% of them will give grand compliments (when pressed).

Jim died knowing that Forrest Gump was the best movie ever, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were the best recording artists, the Appollo 13 crew were the baddest men on and off the planet, and that chicks dig a man in a scout-leader uniform and headlamp.

His regrets were few but include eating a tuna sandwich from a gas station convenience store (true story), not training his faithful dog Sadie to detect arrowheads, and that no video evidence exists of his prowess on the ski slopes.

Jim did not live an average life. He traveled where he wanted to travel, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, taught everyone everything they ever wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix, and loved who he wanted to love.

Burial service will take place Saturday December 14th, 2019. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM with the celebration of life service to begin at 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, NC.

Anyone wearing Hello Kitty will receive a door prize.

*Edit - Stephanie is the beautiful and talented much younger sister.

Jim is well remembered and missed at Amber Road. I remember him bringing in his kids for the traditional office trick - or -treating. He could fix anything and seemed to be there right when needed. He fixed the microwave door twice! I am so sorry for your loss and pray for comfort during this time.
