Abbie Rebecca Tamblyn
December 10, 1925 – May 11, 2021
Abbie Rebecca Davis Tamblyn was born December 10, 1925 in Clarke County Alabama to Orman Louis Davis and Nettie McClure Davis. She grew up in Jackson, Alabama, graduating from Jackson High School in April, 1944. She attended Judson College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1948. She received a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Alabama in 1950. After earning her Master’s Degree, she moved from Jackson to Mobile, to work for the Draft Board. She met James P. Tamblyn while attending Government Street Presbyterian Church, and they married in December of 1955. They lived in Mobile for the rest of their lives, raising three children, James P. Tamblyn, Jr; Anne M. Tamblyn (Parker); and John D. Tamblyn. Abbie loved God the Father; Jesus Christ the Son; and believed in the power of the Holy Spirit. She was quick to help anyone in need. She was an amazing and creative soul, who could not only write poetry (and recite volumes of poetry from memory), sew, and cook, but also transform everyday items into delightful toys for children. She loved nature and shared that love with her children and their friends, taking them on excursions to woods, streams, and other natural settings. Abbie loved animals of all types, raising my baby wild animals to return them to the wild. She was a career housewife and mother with exception of the occasional substitute teaching job. She served as a church officer, church volunteer, and PTA member at her children’s schools. Abbie was preceded in death by her Mother, Nettie McClure Davis; Father, Orman Louis Davis; Step-Mother Kathleen Johnson Davis; and Husband, James P. Tamblyn, Sr. Abbie is survived by her three children – James Perrin Tamblyn, Jr (LeAnne), Anne McClure Tamblyn Parker (Matthew), John Davis Tamblyn (Kathy); seven grandchildren – Perrin LeAnne Tamblyn Bickert (Jordan), Lynn McClure Tamblyn, Maria McClure Parker, Laura Catrett Tamblyn, Chase Tamblyn Parker, Lucy Zeh Simei Tamblyn, Merrijo Chunxiang Tamblyn; and two great-grandchildren – Wilder Robert Bicker and Penelope James Bickert, all of whom miss her very much.
