Simply the best professor there was.  I  hate to hear he had passed.

So sorry.  I just found out about Dr. Macaluso's passing.  I was a student of his in the late 80's.  His classes developed my life-long love of history. I have thought about him often in the last 25 years. He was a wonderfully interesting teacher.

Dr. Mac was such a kind man. I enjoyed my time in his class so immensely. I am so thankful that I was fortunate to get to learn under such a passionate teacher. If all educators loved their subject matter as much as he did, education would be at a better place. Thanks Dr. Mac!

Lenny was a good buddy to me, his colleague, from 1985 (when I arrived at USA)-1998 (when I left).  We spent time in Mobile and in Paris.  He loved both.  A great man.

I took every course I could from Dr. Mac. His tremendous knowledge and his enthusiasm for his content were so inspiring to me. I considered him one of the very best! He will be greatly missed by many former students!

 A wonderful professor and mentor.  May he rest in peace.

Last year while in Paris for my fourteenth trip, I called Dr Mac to thank him for inspiring my interest in French history.  I expressed to him how grateful I was for all he taught me . So much so that I was determined to go there, and I have year after year, enriching my understanding and appreciation of France  all the  more. Without his  contagious enthusiasm, I would have never visited or fell so in love with France.  It was all his fault, I  told him , And. Thank you very, very much,  I will always be indebted,
I am so fortunate to have known him, he believed in me as an undergraduate and was one of the committee members who selected me for a fellowship.  An opportunity to learn even more about France.  In my lifetime, I will never stop learning or reading about France. Nor will I ever fail to appreciate the influence he had on my life. I am  so sad of his passing, but I am so glad I paused to call him and say thank you 20 years after  I graduated. R I P Dr Mac

As a young undergrad studying in Paris for the first time, I took several walks with Dr Macaluso through the city. He always knew out of the way places which were more interesting than the history books. Great memories, thanks for everything Dr Mac.

I was saddened to read of Lenny's death. My heart and prayers go to his sister and all of his friends. He was a great teacher who was loved by many at South Alabama. This brings back many happy memories of the History Dept in "the good old days" when South was much smaller. Rest In Peace Lenny.

He was an amazing professor.  A true one of a kind!  His energy and ethusiam about history was simply contagious! He was the kind of professor with an open door policy and discuss anything anytime.  I spent many hours in his office discussing French history.  I will always appreciate and think fondly of those moments I spent with him.

Dr. Macaluso was my history teacher when I returned to college at U.S.A. as an adult student. He was very interesting, dedicated and encouraging. May God rest his soul.
