Graduated from Starkville High School 1950 and Southern Mississippi University 1961. Mr. Stratas established Top Music Co. in 1963 and was its president for 55 years.
Nick was active in the order of A.H.E.P.A. (American Hellenic Education Progressive Association). As president he directed the construction of 13 apartments for the elderly in Mobile, Baldwin County and one in Hoover, Alabama.
Stratas served as president of the AHEPA National Housing Corp. in Indianapolis, Indiana. Under his direction 79 senior housing apartments were constructed. By the time he became chairman of the board there were 92.
Nick was active in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and served as president of the parish council and was chairman of the Greek Festival for 12 years. He was made an archon of the Order of St. Andrew, the highest honor given to an Orthodox layman, in New York in 1994.
Nick is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary (Titsa), their sons Mike Nickolas Stratas (Florence), Dominick Nickolas Stratas (Torii), and Chris Nickolas Stratas and three grandchildren Mary Katherine Stratas, Caroline Stratas and Mia Stratas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday March 25, 2018 from 5-7 pm at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 50 South Ann Street, Mobile. The trisagion service will follow at 7 pm. The AHEPA memorial service will be conducted by the members of the Nick Stratas Chapter 310 order of AHEPA.
On Monday March 26, 2018 visitation will be at 10 am with the funeral service at 11 am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. His Emminence Metropolitan ALEXIOS of Atlanta and local clergy will be conducting. Internment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Mobile, Alabama 36604. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nick’s memory may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 50 South Ann Street, Mobile Alabama 36604.
