Sheila Gay Cheatham

July 4, 1949October 1, 2019

On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, Sheila Gay Cheatham, a beautiful loving mother and Nana to her 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren passed away at age 70. Sheila was born July 4, 1949 in Memphis, TN. She practiced cosmetology for 30 plus years. Sheila had a passion for creating beautiful things from jewelry making and crafts to gardening. She was an avid reader and a true believer in the word of God. She was quick to quote you a scripture or tell you a book in the bible that you needed to read. She was an excellent cook who believed in the southern secrets of butter and sugar and if you were skinny then you must not be happy. Our mom was a loving and strong woman, she wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She loved her family and friends and always left you with an “I love you”, a hug, and a kiss. Sheila is survived by her children, Shannon Corley (Jason), Richard Tanner (Sarita), and Crystal Sears (Richie); Grandchildren, Hannah Bacon (Tripp), Garrett Corley, Caleb Tanner, Keeley Sears and Whitney Sears; Great Grandchildren, Brooke Bacon and Wyatt Bacon. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters Butch Cheatham (Sheila), Linda Cheatham, Rudy Priest (Connie), Renee Redden (James), Robbin Colwell (Keith), Rickie Norman (Mike). A special thank you to all the nurses and CNAs at Kindred Hospice and Mobile Nursing who helped us care for our Mom the past 6 months, especially Robin. When others threw me away Sheila took me in and gave me a home for 6 months. My brother and sister were 12 and 9 years older than me; so I never grew up with them......... living with Shelia , Shannon, Richard and Crystal was like living with the family I never had........ every mother’s day I would think of her and her kindness and caring for me and how she treated me as one of her own.......... she was a spit fire, full of love, and always laughing....... and a wonderful cook; I still remember her mustard rubbed fried chicken!!!!.......... this breaks my heart to see this....... Shannon , Richard and Crystal I hope you realize what a wonderful mother you had......... and I am so sorry she was taken from you 💔
