At a young age, the family moved to Mobile. She worked as a secretary for a few years. She was among a group of people who were allowed to walk through the Bankhead Tunnel before vehicles were allowed! She was married to the love of her life, Harry Meatyard for 64 years. She became a full-time mother and housewife with the birth of her 1st child and was a wonderful, loving mother to 4 children. She and Harry enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their camper. She was loved and very active in her church, St. Mary’s. She never met a stranger, always loving and kind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Frances Probst; husband, Harry Meatyard; and son, Michael Havely Meatyard.
She is survived by children: Cheryl Hill, Ted Meatyard, and Keith (Deborah) Meatyard; grandchildren, Todd (Jane) Wilson, Michael (Jennifer) Wilson, Ross Wilson, Angela Blassingame Clark, Melissa (Eddie) Hicks; Michael (Brittany) Meatyard; great-grandchildren, Ryan Wilson, Kyle (Mallory) Wilson, Ella Wilson, Santanna Ward, Chandler (Tristin) Wilson, Chase Wilson, Mikey Phillips, Harper Griffin, Rider Griffin, Harrison Meatyard, Molly Jean Meatyard; great-great-grandchildren, Liam Ward, Owen Traynor, and Briar Wilson.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, with a graveside service immediately following in Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
