Elsie Byrum

Elsie Byrum, age 99, of Waxhaw, went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2020. She was born in Lancaster County S.C. on January 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Marcus Blair Haywood and Nora Godfrey Price Haywood. Mrs. Byrum was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Byrum; her daughter, Peggy Byrum Melton; she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Haywood, Jennings Haywood, Billie Joe Haywood and M.B. Haywood Jr.; her sisters, Olive Boatright, Margaret Price and Barbara Pope. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Alexander; her sons, Henry C. Byrum Jr. (Beverly) and Marcus Lynn Byrum (Dianne); her eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and by her sister, Betty Lathan. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Union United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
