DeVere Rogers Smith Jr., “Roger,” passed away on November 23, 2018. Roger was born in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Athlene Grayson Smith and DeVere Rogers Smith Sr. on September 26, 1952. He attended both Pfeiffer College and Wake Forest University, then studied abroad at the Sorbonne School in Paris. Roger was a Senior Superintendent at BE & K Building Group; a Superintendent and General at LeChase Construction; Superintendent at Welliver McGuire Inc.; General Superintendent at S.C. Hondros and Iron Worker General Foreman at Flour Daniel. Roger was a stellar husband and father. He was an accomplished hunter and a member of the NRA, Single Action Shooting Society and African Sporting Arms. He was also a member of the Monroe Historic Commission and also fluent in French. In addition to his parents, Roger is also predeceased by his sister, Dana Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Smith of Monroe; daughter, Chelsie Smith of Brunswick, Georgia and Cleo Smith of Monroe. A Funeral Service will be held at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. McEwen Funeral Home is honored to serve the Smith family.

My Deepest Sympathies Jennifer and Chelsie. I have been in shock since I heard the news of Rogers passing. Roger was not only my Cousin but a Brother. We spent many wonderful times together in our youth and his Memory will never be forgotten. Blessings to you all and know that you are in thoughts and prayers.
