To Keith and Family,

Joan and I knew each other through FOFC but served on different committees. She had a wonderful way with the kids. She cared so much for their well being and was a wonderful liaison to all that were assigned to her. It is a great loss to so many. She will be missed by students as well as members of our organization.

I send you all my deepest sympathy.

I only knew Joan for a short time, about two years I would say. I would come to the house once a month on Thursdays for the FOFC Scholarship Committee meetings. She was so dedicated to the organization and to her students. I am so sorry for your loss for she will be surely missed.

Joan has been such a pivotal member of the scholarship committee. As a new member, she helped guide me through duties of sponsoring these deserving college students, who have special requirements as foster youth. I was an honor to have known Joan, she was so dedicated to the cause of foster youth.

Joan will definitely be missed. I know I will miss her. I will miss traveling to FOFC Scholarship Committee meetings with her. I will miss seeing her posts on line. I will miss getting to email with her. She was a nice lady (and still is) who cared a lot about her students and former students. She had a nice sense of humor and was almost always an upbeat and positive person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family as I know that they will also miss her. She's keeping an eye on you, so don't think that she has left you completely.

My condolences goes out to all of you. May God's love heal and comfort you all. I had the privilege to get to know Joan. She was a client of mine. We shared many stories of our lives. I am so very glad that this remarkable woman came into my life. I will miss her and she will always be with me in my heart and mind. My love will always be with the Renken family.

While I did not have the opportunity to meet Joan in person because my school schedule always pushed me to leave California in early August, Joan was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was never hesitant to share her life with me and encourage me to pursue any and every opportunity that came my way. She became a pillar of support for me at a time that was so difficult for me. From leaving my siblings in foster homes while I headed off to college to my constant feeling of not belonging at my school, Joan was always an email away. It saddens me to never have met her in person but either way I am so thankful to have been connected with her. I send you my condolences with a heavy heart. Sending the biggest of hugs.

There are no words to express how sorry I am for everyone’s last. Joan came into my life in 1996 through friends of foster children. She was such an inspiration and an amazing role model. I loved how she was such a matriarch of her family.

Joan was somewhat of a surrogate mother to me and grandmother to my children. We will all miss her beyond what words can express.

Joan made me want to be a better person, friend, and mother. I am truly saddened by the loss of her life. Even more so, that our family is out of town and cannot attend the services. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
