Family Friend

April 28, 2014

I am very grateful to have met Mel and his mother. I knew him through my parents since I was a child. He always had a great, loving and kind personality. Listening to his family and friends stories at the service made me realize just how much this man was loved, the service was so full that the guest were out the door. Had I known that his passing was going to come so quickly, I would of been at his home everyday.
He showed me that it was completely normal to be a gay man, he would make jokes and tell me stories to encourage me to accept myself.
I love him dearly as family would, God bless him.

I met Mel through my wife, Aili, back in the 80's. Mel and my wife knew each other since birth when she was born in 1964. I was always amazed at Mel's many talents. Is there anything this man could not do? He played the piano and sang. He also had this amazing ability to create the most beautiful flower arrangements. When Aili and I were married in 1988, we most definitely had to have Mel as an usher in our wedding. Mel and his mother, Ramona, have always been so generous with our family; which now consists of 5 children. When I was informed of Mel's passing, I was in disbelief, but I know now that he is no longer suffering from Diabetes and is finally resting in peace. When I think of Mel, I will always remember his great personality, his wonderful sense of humor and how blessed we were to have him as a true friend. Rene & Aili Gardea, (Arcadia, CA)

"Mel", you were a very important person in my heart and family. You had a heart of "gold", always giving, loving and a good sounding board. Both my sons Erik and Vincent truly had a loving relationship with their Uncle Mel. Rest now my dear Mel, now you can drive that Caddie you always wanted. Love you forever!
