He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Lunceford Layton; and his parents, Clyde and Estelle Layton.
He is survived by his sons, Lonnie Layton (Carla) and Tommy Layton; daughters, Tammy Stansell (Ben) and Dana Boykin; grandchildren, Zac Stansell (Jessica), Taylor Layton, Kylie Roy (Dale), Ashlyn MacQueen (Ian), Levi Layton, Max Waldrop, Micah Layton, Landon Waldrop (Angel), Peyton Boykin and Macie Boykin; great-grandchildren, Leo Stansell, Evie MacQueen, Riggs Roy and Nolan Stansell; brother, Terry Layton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clyde and Sharon were happily married for 58 years. He spent the majority of his career on the road as a truck driver. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing cards and fishing. He and Barbara enjoyed playing cards at the Montevallo Senior Center and attending dances in Columbiana. He enjoyed discussing politics and current events over morning coffee with his friends at Jack's. He loved spending time with family and his legacy will be the wisdom and life lessons he imparted to his grandchildren.
A visitation for Clyde will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Rev. Brook Lovett will officiate.
Clyde will be laid to rest in Shelby Memory Gardens, 8586 Highway 25, Calera, Alabama 35040.
