James Alvin Detwiler
July 27, 1943 – February 27, 2019
James Alvin Detwiler, originally from Dora, Alabama, passed away on February 27, 2019. After a long illness resulting from diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease, James left the bonds of earth for his Heavenly Home, free of pain and suffering. He moved to Sterrett, Alabama in 1995 with his wife, Marilyn, where he lived until his passing. James was retired from the State of Alabama, Department of Transportation, where he worked as an Engineering Inspector for Sherman Prestressed Concrete in Pelham, Alabama for 30 years. He loved fishing, watching auto races and, most of all, Alabama football. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marilyn Faulkner Detwiler; his daughter, Alicia Detwiler Bailey (Ken); his son, Kerry Michael Detwiler (Ashley); his step-daughter, Wendy Sands (Mike); his brother, Gary Detwiler (Cheryl), his sister, Barbara Detwiler Parker (Donnie); four grandchildren, Hunter Gibson, Lauren Bailey, Mary Carlisle Detwiler and Charley Detwiler; two step-grandchildren, Daniel Brasher and Rachel Brasher Dobbs; two step-great grandchildren, Lydia Aurora Dobbs and River Dobbs; and several nieces and nephews. His memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. A committal service and inurnment will follow at Alabama National Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Due to cemetery regulations, the family requests any floral tributes be in the form of a basket or living plant.
