Rogers Hornsby Bice, age 89, of Montevallo, Alabama passed away July 9, 2018. He was born in Marvel, Alabama to Bert and Myrtle Bice. At age 17, he marched in the Rose Bowl Parade in California. He left high school to serve in the Navy Air Force during World War II. As so many did, he worked in the coal mines to support his family. Later, he and his brother owned Bice Tree Service. In his later years, he started his own landscaping company.
Roger loved to fish and hunt, and was an avid Alabama football fan. More than anything, he cherished being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Sue Hayes Bice; sisters, Margaret White and Bonnie Coston; brothers, Eugene Bice, Johnny Bice and Ray Bice; brothers-in law, Jimmy White and Phil Baer; and sisters-in-law, Doris Bice and Sarah Nell Bice. He is survived by his sons, Roger E. Bice of Tuscaloosa, AL and Billy Bice (Gloria) of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Christopher Bice (Renae), Alisha Gayle Duncan (Wesley), and Kevin Bice (Autumn); six great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Baer, Annette Blackmon (James) and Janette Brooks; brother, Jimmy Bice (Rita); brother-in-law, Bobby Coston; sister-in-law, Betty Bice; special and loving nephew and niece, Danny and Carolyn Bice and family.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Bobby Coston will officiate and burial will follow at Still Cemetery in Alabaster.
