Catherine Louise Cumbie, 73, a resident of Wetumpka, Alabama, passed away of September 23, 2022, surrounded by her family and Friends. Catherine was born on February 1,1949, to William Calvin & Viola Voncile Cumbie in Montgomery, Alabama. From an early age, Catherine wanted to be a nurse. Although she was unable to attend nursing school, she became employed as a nurse’s aide at St Jude’s and later Father Purcell’s Children’s Center in Montgomery, Alabama, helping take care of sick children. She was then hired by Jackson hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and later a supply technician responsible for ordering all implant devices and prosthesis for the entire surgery department at the hospital. She loved working in the medical field, helping patients, working with the doctors, nurses, and other staff. She made several lifelong friends during her career that spanned over 30 years. In 1969, Catherine gave birth to one child, Hubert Wayne Cumbie. As a single parent, she worked long shifts and endured many hardships, but she taught her son a work ethic that he has carried through his own life that allowed him to obtain his degree as a Registered Nurse. She gave of herself to see that her child’s needs were met to the best of her ability. Catherine had a deep love of the Lord and passed that along to her son. Catherine came from a large family and was proceeded in death by her father and mother, William Calvin and Viola Voncile Cumbie; 4 brothers, William Earl, Kenneth Ray, Hubert David and Frank Edward Cumbie; and 6 sisters, Willie Ruth Batson, Alice Fay Leach, Margaret Jeanette Thrash, Betty Sue Moseley, Edna Jewel Cumbie, & Mary Jean Cumbie. She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Lois Boatwright and Marilyn Marie Coleman, her son, her grandchildren, her great grandson, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will be greatly missed by those here on earth but, has been reunited with those that have already passed and is comforted by the Lord Jesus Christ. Pall bearers will be Nicholas William Edwards, Jacob Ryan Barr, Jacob Delois Mattice, Joshua Dale Williams, James Logan King, Duncan Allen Harden and Steven Donovan Boatwright.
A family and friends visitation for Catherine will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leak Memory. Following the family and friends visitation will be a Celebration of Life Chapel Service at 2:00 PM.
