Gil was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean. Also preceding him in death were his parents, John W. and Wenona B. Luton, brothers; William B. Luton and Richard R. Luton and his grandson, Jason Segrest.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters; Linda Kolodey (Fred), Carol Wishart (Jim), Cheryl Segrest, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Gil served as a Lt. Colonel (ret.) in the US Air Force. He flew C-130's as a test pilot and was a Project Officer for NASA working frequently with the seven original astronauts in recovery operations. After his military service he joined C.F. Braun and Company as a Scheduling Engineer. He loved to play golf, spend time at the beach and spend time with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Gil is scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2018 in the chapel of Frazer United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude Chidren's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
