Margaret Ann Brown, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on June 14th at the UAB hospital in Birmingham, AL. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor roughly six weeks ago and fought courageously with the support of her family around her. Six weeks ago, she looked into her children’s eyes and said that if God was ready, then she was as well.
Maggie was born in 1940 in Hamilton, AL. Her family immediately moved to Lynch, KY as her father was a coal miner and followed the industry there. She moved back to Hamilton when she was five years old, where she entered the Marion County schools and graduated from Hamilton High School. From a class of 39 students, Maggie was one of three bold graduates that pursued college education.
As a freshman at Auburn University, she met a junior engineering student from Montgomery named Ron Brown. Little did she know that he had plans to become a Marine Corps officer, and their journey together soon began. After getting married, they left Auburn and forged a path of family, faith, and adventure through Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Florida, and finally Montgomery.
Throughout her travels and adventures, Maggie was an inspirational wife, mother, grandmother, and true friend. She loved spending time with her family, and as she chased her dreams she encouraged others to do the same. She was crazy about her husband of 58 years and supported her four children and thirteen grandchildren in all their endeavors.
While she loved traveling the world, she was happiest and most complete while at the beach in Seagrove, FL, in the mountains of Big Sky, MT, and back home at her house on Bell Road. As her and Ron's family grew, their home on Bell Road was where they taught all of their grandchildren to swim, to fish, to bake cookies, and many other invaluable life lessons. She will be missed for her resilience, humor, generosity, creativity, and energy
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Jesma Harris, and a sister, Brenda Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Ron; their four children, Hope Mardre (George), Fred, Todd, and Lance (Amy); and their thirteen grandchildren.
Services will be held at Christchurch in Montgomery on Monday, June 18th. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 at the church, with a service beginning at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity, cause, or person that would appreciate your help.
