Michael Ray Strength, Sr., 77, longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, gained his heavenly wings on August 12, 2020, in Foley, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Ray Strength and Geraldine Keeble Strength, and his brother, Kenneth Wayne Strength. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Strength; son, Michael Ray Strength, Jr. (Lissa); daughter, Teresa Lynn Armstrong (Craig); and twin sisters, Tammy Smith (Danny) and Pam Thomas (Steve). He was affectionately called “Paw Paw” by his grandchildren Steven Strength, Sean Strength, Shanna Burgans, Jessica Long, Andrew Armstrong, Maegan Guillot, Lewis Armstrong, Adam Weeks, Anna Douthit, and 13 great –grandchildren. Michael was born on May 30, 1943, in Montgomery. He grew up in Valley, AL., and lived there until he graduated from Lanett High School. Michael resided in Montgomery for most of his life, honorably serving 20 years with the Montgomery Fire Department. After retiring from the Montgomery Fire Department, he worked for and retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education. He and Ann moved to Foley, AL., in 2005. Michael loved to fish and garden. He was well-known for his homemade pepper sauce which he shared generously with family and friends. Michael shared his sweet smile, kind heart, and entertaining stories with everyone. Although he will be greatly missed, his family rejoices in the fact that he is now pain free and with his Lord and Savior.
The funeral will be on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 AM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, with a graveside viewing at 9:30 AM. Pall Bearers include Scott Thomas, Andrew Armstrong, Lewis Armstrong, Scott Strength, Bobby Smith, and Allen Popwell. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the retired City of Montgomery Firefighters. Pastor Michael Stephens, longtime friend, will be officiating. Marks are required.
