Ruby May Gilliam Kiefer, age 97, of Montgomery, joined our Lord and Savior on Feb. 13, 2019, while residing at St. Martins in the Pines, Birmingham, AL.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charles(Charlie) Kiefer. Ruby is survived by son, Charles (Chuck) Kiefer(Cheryl), daughter Kate Kiefer, granddaughter Kelley Washburn(Andy) and great grandchildren, Will and Zoe Washburn.
She was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Beech Bluff, TN, later growing up in Jackson, TN, graduated from Jackson High School and Union School of Business. She was a faithful member of Morningview Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a founding member of the East YMCA and served as a Cub Scout den mother and held various PTA offices to support her children.
She had a true heart of service which manifested itself in 37 years of volunteerism with the Baptist Ladies Auxillary(Pink Ladies) at Montgomery Baptist South Hospital. This gift of service was also shared with hundreds of friends throughout the years in selfless meal preparations and compassionate outreach to those in need.
Her legacy to her children and all who have known her is her generosity, sweet spirit, positive attitude with that quick smile, unconditional love and unselfishness of the heart. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Mrs. Kiefer is set for 11:30 am on Sunday, Feb. 17 at White Chapel Greenwood Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm in Greenwood Cemetery.
