Giovanna Serpone

August 29, 1942January 8, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Giovanna Serpone Vissa passed away on January 8, 2021 after a valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Claudio, of 56 years, her daughter Renza (Luigi), and her daughter-in-law Valentina - widow of her late son, Robert, her grandchildren Brandon, Sarah Beth, Aidan and Matteo, her brother Nick (Linda), her sister Rita (Raffaele) and many nephews and nieces of the Vissa and Serpone families. She will also be missed by extended family and friends who treated her as part of their families. Giovanna was born in Toro, Campobasso on August 29th, 1942 in the middle of WW 2. She arrived in Canada in July 1951 with her parents Pasquale, Maria and her brother Nick. Giovanna dedicated her life to her precious children, and supporting her husband in every aspect of their life together. She made a contribution in politics by helping the top tiers of the Liberal party to form governments in Canada and Quebec. Giovanna was a caring, humble and intelligent person. Everyone who met her came away with the feeling that she was a woman of high standards and exceptional class. Her life was cut short before she could enjoy the fruits of her labour with her husband in Florida, Italy and Canada. Rest in peace Amore Mio. The family thanks the nurses and staff, Dr. Metrakos and the team at the Glen Hospital. Many thanks also to the CLSC of Cartierville and the incomparable Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Centre. May she rest in peace with our son Robert. In lieu of flowers for those wishing, donations to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Centre, Kirkland, would be gratefully appreciated.

I remember my zia Giovanna when she was a young woman and living in front of our house on Verville. I was a little boy not knowing she would be family one day. My frienship with her began then and continued to grow my entire life. I will miss our chats
& time together. My Love and thoughts go to all who loved here. Love always Massimo

Dear Claudio, Renza and the Vissa, Serpone and Beltempo families,

Zia Nina always made us feel apart of the family whether it be at Easter lunch, the Christmas meal (eating lasagna) or at family gathering in Montréal. We appreciated your visit to our farm and family celebration in 2010. We also have fond memories of touring Italy in 2011 with the whole family.

As you take this time to remember all the times you treasure and Giovanna's hard work and dedication to you, her family, please know that we are thinking of you all.

Sending our love,
Robert (Bob), Janet and Mary Beth Baker

Our Heartfelt Sympathies to all the Family members.
We have known Giovanna for many years and our friendship developed spontaneously.
A delightful and simple person. No mystery to her life, she loved and praised her family constantly.
Our connection was ''food''. Her culinary skills were outstanding and she would happily prepare your favorite dish.
In fact, she taught Mona how to prepare a ''perfect risotto''.
We shared many wonderful moments in the past years.
We will remember Giovanna as a kind and considerate human being.
Our love and prayers will accompany her into the next life !
