Albina Grace Massagli (nee D’Amato) - Alba passed peacefully at home on January 14, 2021. Born on May 10, 1926 in the Harlem section of Manhattan to Anna and Nicolas D’Amato. When she was 12, she and her family moved to the Bronx. Soon after WWII ended, Alba met Ray Massagli (deceased) at a mutual friend’s party. Their shared love of dancing helped them fall in love and they were married in October 1947. The newlyweds settled in the Bronx and had 2 children Raymond Jr. (deceased) and Laura. They moved to Croton, NY in the late 70’s then to Buchanan NY in 1995. Alba retired from Avco Financial services where she worked as a loan officer. In her retirement, Alba loved to cook and bake and watched the cooking channel daily. She was hooked on traveling after taking her first airline flight at age 86.
Alba is survived by her Daughter Laura Petrillo (Jim), Grandchildren, Raymond Massagli III, Sandra Feldman & Carole Sinacore, Godson Philip Ranieri, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their families, plus many close, loving friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Raymond Sr., son Raymond Jr, Sisters Marie (Joina) Ranieri, Rose Dughan and Brothers Joseph & Lenny D’Amato.
Visitation will take place at Carter’s funeral home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY on Friday January 22nd from 9:30 – 10:30, followed by mass at St. Christopher’s Church 3094 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY, followed by burial at Rose Hills Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY. In light of COVID-19 restrictions, there will not be a luncheon following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alba’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
