Christine Elizabeth Dellinger Abernathy, born on March 11, 1936 to the late Sid Dellinger and Louise Powell Dellinger. Christine retired from Burke County Department of Social Services. She served on the Glen Alpine Board of Aldermans since 1996, where she held the position of Mayor Protempra. She was the first woman Mayor of Glen Alpine and served three terms. She also served as chairman of the Senior Center Advisory Council and served on the Burke County Board of Social Services for two terms as chairman. She served on Burke County School Advisory Board and Glen Alpine Women’s Club. She has been a member of First Advent Christian Church for over 70 years. She was voted “Miss Turkey Tail”, of Glen Alpine (1999-2000). In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by sister, Sylvia Powell, husband, Nelson Abernathy and son, Jimmy Abernathy. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Kim Clarke, grandchildren; Cody Clarke, Ashley Abernathy, niece, Mary Dale and five great grandchildren. A Celebration of life will be held at First Advent Christian Church on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2:00pm. Pat Bradshaw will preside. Kirksey Funeral Home is handling the services for the Abernathy family.

Chris was a joy in my life and I am a better person that she was in it. If she was out of work for a day, I missed her. Her life is one to be celebrated. I hope her spirit will now take over where her body is gone and continue to make us all better people.
