OBITUARY

Janice Evelyn Hancock

March 17, 1938August 5, 2019

In this world there are few rare individuals who light up the world around them with love. On the morning of August 5, 2019, Janice Evelyn Hancock left this world behind. Even as we grieve our loss, we rejoice as we remember many fond memories with her.

Janice was the first born child to James Sr. and Thressa Weathers on March 17, 1938 in Muskegon, Michigan. In time, she would have 5 brothers and 2 sisters that she loved and helped care for. On July 14, 1962, Janice married the love of her life, Dale Hancock, Sr. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage and raised 6 children. She joyously welcomed each of her 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Janice treasured her time with family and friends and welcomed several of them to her home often.

Janice was an extremely talented artist. She created and shared many paintings in oils, watercolors, and acrylics. She also enjoyed crocheting and gifted beautiful dollies by the hundreds. She loved to give of her talents and teach those around her to experience her hobbies together. Her family was often blessed by her love of sewing and cooking as well.

Those left with memories to treasure are: her husband: Dale, Sr., her children: Dan (Habiba) Simila, Phillip (Susan) Hancock, Rick Hancock (Candy Cook), Judy (Charles) Fuhrman, and Dale, Jr. (Melissa) Hancock, grandchildren: Nicky, Russell, Daniel, Joe III, Dana, Deyonna, Selina, Fletcher, Aiyana, Bronlee, David, Katherine, Adam, Christopher, Megan, Brieanne, and Gabriel. Her beloved son, Joe Simila Jr, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hancock, preceded her in death. She is also survived by her brothers, James Weathers Jr. (Carol Jahn), John (Jackie) Weathers, Jene (Carla) Weathers, and sister, Jannell Weathers, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry and Julius Weathers, as well as her sister, Jackie LaHaye.

Janice cherished her many friends and family. Some she had enjoyed for many years and others came into her life more recently. They each held a special place in her heart.

There will be a celebration of her life on August 24, 2019 at Lakeside Baptist Church in Muskegon officiated by Pastor Tom Beetham. A fellowship time will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served directly following the service.

Denny & Janis Swiftney

August 15, 2019

Janice was a sweet, kind, and thoughtful lady, who always thought of others before herself. I have several dollies from those hundreds of dollies that she made. We also have two original paintings that she did for us.
She would bring me bread from Russ's after her and Dale ate there. Sometimes she would share her great Chop Suez that she made with us.
Now I wish I would have given her more hugs.
Denny and I are going to miss her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love, Denny and Janis Swiftney
