Orville L. Woodring passed away on December 10, 2018, at the age of 95 years. He was born on February 28, 1923, and served his country as a “greatest generation warrior” during World War II. He was in the U.S. Navy and sailed on the Destroyer USS Farragut. He participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
After his wartime service, Orville worked at Continental Motors for many years and eventually retired.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly (Sawyer), and his eldest son, Mike Woodring aka Wichita. Orville is survived by one son, Larry Woodring (Marty) aka Woody. He also leaves behind one grandson, Jeff Woodring (Tammy) and one granddaughter, Michelle Cotton. His youngest sister, Dolores Chorney also survives him. He has many beloved great and great great grandchildren, and a very large extended family.
Orville was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also was a generous and giving individual, and helped out many in need during the course of his life. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Per Orville’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held. A remembrance will be held at the Don Rea VFW Post 8846, along with a Military 21 Gun Salute, on May 4, 2019 at 1pm.
